Milwaukee Brewers fail to win series sweep of Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 - Part 1

The Milwaukee Brewers failed to win their three game series sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies as they lost 4-3 at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia on Wednesday, April 20.
The Phillies were definitely relieved to win against the Brewers. The Phillies barely avoided the series sweep the Brewers had planned for them and even their ace Roy Halladay could not stop the Brewers from belting out run after run in their last match.
All hopes were on Cliff Lee for this match.
For once, the Phillies’ pitchers were not the only ones worth watching in the match and the rest of the team contributed to their win, which was a refreshing change. The team has been criticised many times for relying only one their star pitchers to get
the wins whereas the rest of their rotation always seems lacking. For numerous times this season, the Phillies offence does not support their superior pitching efforts with any runs support.
Cliff Lee is one of the top pitchers in all of Major League Baseball and rarely does he fail to impress. He was not as horrible as Halladay in their last match but he was not his usual outstanding self as well. In the duration of six innings he allowed three
runs out of which two were earned and allowed eight hits.
The Brewers managed to get a three run lead in within the first six innings and it looked like they would be successful in completing their series sweep. Thankfully for the Phillies’ Placido Polanco had other plans. His three run shot helped the Phillies
level the score with Milwaukee, as he hit the shot against their starter Chris Narveson in the sixth inning. Another run was added by Shane Victorino off Brandon Kintzler which put Philadelphia ahead of the Brewers by one run.
Everyone was on their toes during the game, not knowing what to expect. "That was huge," Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel said. "Games like this keep you from going in a tailspin"
Contreras was helped in the ninth inning by Wilson Valdez, the second baseman who made a terrific over the shoulder catch against Carlos Gomez’s shallow hit towards right-field. Contreras then ended it by striking-out Ryan Braun.
The Brewers had their share of hits as well. Jonathan Lucroy belted out a home-run and Prince Fielder scored two RBI singles and managed three hits along with that. Lucroy had tagged Lee for three runs out of which two were earned. Compared to last week’s
twelve strike-outs that Lee pitched at Washington, he managed one strike-out against Milwaukee which obviously wasn’t his best performance to date.
