Milwaukee Brewers focused on the Winter Meetings – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are reported to be making final preparations for next week’s Winter Meetings. To start on Monday, December 3, the Winter Meetings will be held at Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee.
Milwaukee Brewers have not dropped any indication yet as to which free agents they intend to pursue. But given the spots that need to be filled, the most immediate concern for now seems finding pitchers for the bullpen and rotation.
It comes after the Brewers formally parted ways with Shaun Marcum, Francisco Rodriguez, relievers Kameron Loe and Jose Veras. Also important to mention here is the fact that the bullpen did not quite perform this past season the way they did in 2011 Major League Baseball.
When it came to relief in the Majors, the Brewers posed an unimpressive 4.66. Blown saves, on the other hand, remained to franchise-record 29. With such statistics, there seemed an imminent change that the Brewers were to make.
Add to it the fact that they could not move beyond the regular season. Although the second half of the season was comparatively better than the one before the All-Star Game break, the fact remains that they ended up third in the National League Central.
While several other factors contributed to what eventually came to fore, the bullpen remained an issue that the Brewers had to address. Now that John Axford is also arbitration-eligible, next moves of the Brewers will be of great interest for many of the fans.
The overworked and underworked bullpen has to see some vitality the next season. With the contract extension that the manager Ron Roenicke got, there are chances that the club might have a different outlook in the coming season.
His first priority will be to build a solid defensive line. Offensively, the Brewers have to repeat what they did in 2011; helping the team win the National League Central.
With an entirely new focus for the Winter Meetings, to be seen now is what plans have the Brewers made to practically implement as far as the strengthening of the roster is concerned.
