Milwaukee Brewers get Jose Veras as Pittsburgh Pirates go for Casey McGehee – MLB News
With options running out, the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates resorted on an option on Monday, December 12, that will certainly benefit them. The arbitration-eligible players were swapped to reorganise the team for the upcoming season.
With this exchange, Casey McGehee will move to the Pittsburgh Pirates while Jose Veras, the right hander, will move to the Milwaukee Brewers. This comes amid the report that Veras may not stand a chance to get a contract with the Monday midnight deadline.
McGehee’s becoming eligible for this exchange was due large to the fact that Aramis Ramirez is no longer part of the Chicago Cubs, becoming the part f the Milwaukee Brewers as a starting third baseman.
Veras record in the 2011 suffered a great deal after an undeniably good show in the 2010. If his 104 RBIs were his hallmark with no less than 23 homers to his credit and .285 batting average, Veras could only manage to have .223 average in the 155 games
that he appeared in.
He had 13 home-runs less with only 67 RBIs to his credit and .280 base-percentage, McGehee could not display the kind of performance that was expected from a player of his calibre. The Pirates will certainly hope a stronger show from the player in the 2012
season at the third-base.
This was for the first time that he was arbitration eligible. Given his past record, he could have been a natural choice for the Pirates.
Whether Veras, on the other hand, will have a lot to offer for the Milwaukee Brewers is something that only the statistics bring to fore. For instance, in the 79 games that he appeared, he maintained no less than a 3.80 ERA.
He had 79 strike-outs to his credit, having 34 walks in the 71 innings that he pitched. His departure to the Milwaukee Brewers may have some effect on the Pittsburgh Pirates, but overall, the Pirates will not confront many problems.
With this swap, what needs to be seen is how the two players adjust and adapt themselves to the new environment, allowing the teams to play with ever more confidence and the ability of strive for some success in 2012.
