Milwaukee Brewers humiliate St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers put in a brilliant performance on Wednesday, August 3 to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 at Miller Park.
Both teams fought hard as this was a battle for the Brewers to make a comeback in the three-game series, which they successfully did.
It was Casey McGehee who had three homers to his credit to turn the result of the game into his team’s favour.
"I don't think I've ever had three in a game ever. It's something I'll definitely remember. It was kind of one of those out of body experiences," McGehee said. "It was nice, especially to be able to sit back and enjoy it that we were able to win the game."
For the Cardinals, it was playing too many games that created the set of problems they currently face. "We're playing 20 in a row," Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa said. "We needed to get as deep in his allotment today as he could. He took it for us. We
appreciate it."
David Freese started the game with a run in the very first inning but the Milwaukee Brewers were quick to reciprocate. While Corey Hart was the first one to level the score with his single, Casey McGehee homered to take the score to 3-1 for his team.
The St. Louis Cardinals’ offence, however, did their part of the job in the second inning against the seemingly struggling Randy Wolf. Giving up three hits in the inning, Wolf was also a subject to the three-run homer by Rafael Furcal that gave the Cardinals
a 4-3 edge in the game.
While Jackson pitched a strong inning to keep the game within the confines of victory for the Cardinals, Casey McGehee hit another homer to take the lead to 5-4, shattering the Cardinals’ hope to be in a dominant position.
When the lead was secured, Randy Wolf pitched some unplayable innings while Morgan and Braun snapped a single each to take the Brewers lead to 7-4. However, the lead did not stay for long as the Cardinals hit back.
Rafael Furcal hit a single to make it 7-5 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Corey Hart and Nyjer Morgan hit some big hits against Edwin Jackson to keep the Brewers in the driving seat, making sure the team paves the way for victory.
Edwin Jackson, pitching right into the seventh, gave up another run to Casey McGehee that took the Brewers score to 10-5. John Axford once again proved to be a capable closer as he put in a decent effort to seal the game with a 10-5 victory as he pitched
a shut-out ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.
