Milwaukee Brewers induct Manny Parra in the bullpen – MLB News
With a lot happening on the arbitration and contract fronts, the Milwaukee Brewers made another move on Thursday, January 12, to sign a one-year contract with Manny Parra. His inclusion, the Brewers hope, will revitalize the bullpen.
Important to recall is the fact that Parra was unable to pitch last year due to a host of injuries. Just when things appeared to be going pretty well for him, Parra contracted back pain followed by elbow injuries which rendered him completely unable to pitch
in 2011.
Nonetheless, the Milwaukee Brewers are not disappointed with it at all. From the very deal that they have now signed with the player, it becomes obvious that the Brewers are hoping some contribution from the player this year.
His most valuable contribution, which cannot be omitted or overlooked, for the team was in 2010 when he posted 2.39 for the team with amazingly impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio.
It was his posting a good average in the same year that filled the Brewers with the hope that he might repeat the same performance in 2011. However, much to the chagrin of the entire team and the reliever himself, he fell victim to the injury that was certainly
not very good news for him and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Much as Parra’s absence could be felt in the club, the Brewers nonetheless, continued their march throughout the season without letting this loss of a player impact the bullpen. The Brewers succeeded in their strategy.
It was the offence that came to the rescue of the team, with the combination of strong hitters like Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder. While the offence proved their potential and strength with a wonderful performance, the bullpen also played their role wherever
they could.
Now that the new season is getting near, it is to be seen how the Brewers get ahead and take on other top tier teams in the League. Parra will be looking to play his due role. Other unsigned pitchers like Kameron Loe, Shaun Marcum, Francisco Rodriguez and
Jose Veras are still looking to settle the pros and cons of the contract.
