Milwaukee Brewers look at options to sign Japanese star Norichika Aoki – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are looking positive and exploring options to sign Japanese star Norichika Aoki for the next potential seasons in order to improve their current standing in the division.
The entire top management is in Phoenix at the moment for a high level internal meeting and looking anxious to add a future prospect for their franchise since Prince Fielder has become a free agent.
The Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin along with some other executives has also confirmed that Norichika is certainly on their top priority list and in the near future the Japanese sensation might be playing for the Milwaukee based baseball club.
Melvin explained and gave slight details about the recent happenings of Norichika’s potential signing options with the Brewers.
He said, “It’s going to be a private workout. We want to take a look at him and visit with him. We don't have a lot of time. We want to judgment on him until we've seen him. He's more of a contact guy. We've had reports on him.”
Melvin added, “Nez told us before the winter meetings that he represented this player and expected him to be posted. He said he might be a guy we'd be interested in, so we put in a bid on him to see what would happen. You never know what the winning bid
might be.”
Though, Melvin did not disclose all the details about that how the Brewers are going to discuss Norichika’s potential deal with him or with his agent but he did state as the next couple of days will be very critical for the Japanese players potential arrival
in the franchise.
The Brewers have already won the negotiation rights to talk to his Japanese club Yakult Swallows and now hold a very strong position to look for a deal that can prove best for both sides.
Initially for the Brewers, it was very difficult to decide as whether they should pursue an already experienced player in MLB or sign a foreign player as a future prospect. However, looking at his stats in the Swallows franchise, where he batted at an average
of .292, the Brewers’ management turned their attention towards Norichika’s extraordinary talent.
