Milwaukee Brewers look for new hitting coach – MLB News
As Dale Sveum signing a contract with the Chicago Cubs, the Milwaukee Brewers kicked off their search for a new hitting coach. It materialised on Thursday, November 17 that Sveum had agreed to a three-year contract with the Cubs, prompting the Brewers to
find a new hitting coach.
It was early this week that Doug Melvin, the Milwaukee Brewers’ general manager, spoke of Sveum, calling him all prepared and qualified to lead any team. It turned out that the club would be the Chicago Cubs.
Interesting to mention is the fact that Sveum was a candidate for the Boston Red Sox managerial slot which lies vacant after Terry Francona left the club. The Chicago Cubs also had a managerial vacancy to fill with the dismissal of Mike Quade.
As for what Sveum was to do, Melvin had stated that Sveum was ready to manage and go to the club he was familiar with. “I think he's ready to manage, and he gets to do it for a club he's familiar with," Melvin said.
Melvin was asked about the different options that the Brewers might now have. His response was that the club had to do everything quickly since there will not be much space from other clubs to speak to their coaches.
"We'll have to get on that pretty quick, because most clubs have their people tied up and you can't really get permission on a lot of guys at this point," Melvin said.
But Melvin is to speak to Ron Roenicke, the club’s manager who was a rookie until last year, about the hiring of new hitting coach. What names does he have in his mind is not clear yet. Still, there are some names that have already got some attention.
Sandy Guerrero, a Triple-A hitting coach, is one of the names under consideration. Melvin stated that he is a qualified guy and has a big role in the organisation with the Minor League.
Whatever the end decision, the Brewers will certainly look for a hitting coach who can deliver the way Sveum did whereby Milwaukee had one of their most impressive averages throughout the season.
