Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Doug Melvin compliments Dale Sveum – MLB News
If there is one candidate that the Milwaukee Brewers manager Doug Melvin believes can become a Major League manager, it is Dale Sveum. Currently the hitting coach of the Brewers will have his second interview with the Boston Red Sox this week.
The Boston Red Sox are showing a keen interest in the aptitude and expertise of Sveum as a possible candidate to take up their managerial position and guide the team for the next few seasons.
"Dale is really very conscientious," Melvin said. "He knows the game well. I'll go to the office sometimes after a night game at 8:30 in the morning, and he's pulling in on the motorcycle to go over hitters, prepare for the game and get a workout in or whatever."
Under the auspices of Svuem, the Milwaukee Brewers gave an outstanding performance. Importantly, they did well enough to qualify for the National League Championship Series. This was the single most impressive performance of the Brewers in more than 28 years.
All of this, the Brewers will readily acknowledge, can be credited to the hitting coach. He energised and invigorated the team with phenomenal success, giving a new life to the offence.
Milwaukee Brewers had one of the best averages this year in the National League, outperforming all the rivals when it came to their offence. From Ryan Braun to Prince Fielder, every player did well.
"He knows baseball and he studies it," Melvin said. "He's a good communicator with players. He's hard-nosed. He's extremely competitive. I think Dale's to the point where he's ready."
However, it is yet to be seen what the Boston Red Sox decide when they finalizes the name for their manager. The Red Sox general manager, Ben Cherington, has to pick someone from the list which includes Cleveland Indians’ bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., Toronto
Blue Jays’ first-base coach Torey Lovullo, Detroit Tigers’ coach Gene Lamont and Philadelphia Phillies’ bench coach Pete Mackanin.
With all that Sveum has in his arsenal, from experience and skills, it is the Boston Red Sox which will make the ultimate decision of naming one candidate for their manager position.
