Milwaukee Brewers’ manager hopes Zack Greinke will have a solid game against Philadelphia Phillies
The Milwaukee Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said on Monday, July 22, that he hopes Zack Greinke will have a good start against Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Greinke has not been able to appear on the mound in the last 11 days, marking one of the longest absences of the starter this season.
"In our discussions when he stops by and talks to me, whether it's in [batting practice] or my office or whatever, have been good," Roenicke said before Monday's series opener against the Phillies. "Lately, he feels good about trying to get back in his routine and with the bullpen [session Sunday]."
The Milwaukee Brewers have recently witnessed sharp slump in their performance. That they are fourth in the National League Central ranking is in itself quite a huge obstacle to overcome. The players who can put things on the track include Greinke as well.
However, something that cannot be a thing to celebrate at Brewers these days is the rumour about impending Trade Deadline of starter. The non-waiver Trade Deadline is to end by July 31, making the player a free agent by the end of the season.
What measures have the Brewers taken to address this issue? Ron Roenicke has his way of dealing with the issue. For Roenicke, the player has to be focused on what he is doing rather to the rumours swirling around.
"I don't care who you are, you can't not listen to those things," Roenicke said. "When you're thinking about the possibility of maybe you're going to another team, it's not a real comfortable feeling.”
For now, Ron Roenicke wants Greinke to be mentally prepared for the upcoming task that involves pitching against the Philadelphia Phillies. Greinke’s solid start, it goes without saying, will be a crucial factor in determining the results for the Brewers.
In his 20 starts this season so far, Zack Greinke has an impressive 9-3 record with 117 strike-outs to his credit, maintaining an ERA of 3.57. He, beyond any shadow of doubt, has remained one of the strongest starters on the mound to solidify the team’s defence throughout the season.
