Milwaukee Brewers officially sign third baseman Aramis Ramirez – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers have officially announced the signing of former Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez.
Earlier, sources told the media that still no confirmation has received from both sides regarding any signing but it was pretty sure that the Brewers are serious to add free agent Aramis Ramirez. As soon as Ramirez was given the green flag from the doctors,
the Brewers’ management officially added him in the 40 man roster for next three years for $36 million.
The Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin said, “We've been talking about him for some time, He had a couple of other opportunities, but we stayed with it. We met again with Kinzer at the winter meetings (last week in Dallas). I think Prince and (agent) Scott
Boras understand that, Mark and I talked to Scott at the winter meetings. We’re respectful of Prince's position (on the market). It's tough when you're in a small market and you have one of the best players in the game. We had two of the best.”
The arrival of Ramirez will help the Brewers in many ways. The Brewers current roster remained unable to perform in the 2011 regular season despite Prince Fielder’s consistent ball play, but no other Brewer played as expected.
Since Prince Fielder has decided not to stay with the Brewers anymore for further seasons, the management had to take a decision that will likely play a part ensuring Milwaukee’s consistent performance for upcoming seasons.
Secondly, the Brewers top management also wanted to add some power at third base position fearing from left-fielder Ryan Braun’s 50-game suspension. He tested positive for using Performance-Enhancing Drug (PED). Though, the official verdict on Braun’s illegal
activity is still to come but it seems he will be suspended for at-least 50 games.
Meanwhile, all these factors did play a part for the Brewers to sign a good player like Ramirez for next three years. His previous experience with the Cubs has also proved very good for him and he certainly will use this experience for his new team in Milwaukee.
