Milwaukee Brewers optimistic as ticket sales remain 'tremendous' – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ COO Rick Schlesinger stated on Sunday, January 29, that the club is expecting an all-time attendance record this season. His statement came after reports that not many fans might turn up this season to watch the games owing to the
absence of the key players.
However, Schlesinger asserted confidently that the ticket sales have been tremendous for the club with the expectations of record number of people coming to the ballpark for the upcoming 2012 Major League Baseball season.
"Our ticket sales have been tremendous," Schlesinger said. "We are well ahead of last year, and we are expecting to have an all-time attendance record. Our numbers have been great."
The speculation on less number of tickets being sold this time was due largely to the potential absence of Ryan Braun, the outfielder who is facing a possible 50-game suspension due to the failed drug test last year. However, Schlesinger came forward with
strong denial of that, saying there has been no decline in ticket sales.
"There has been no decline or plateauing [in sales], even after the announcement that Braun was under investigation," Schlesinger said. "I think fans are excited about the season."
Schlesinger also expressed his hope that more people will come to the ballpark. Calling the market ideal, he was of the view that fans will turn to watch Spring Training. He also expressed that the staff has minimised the surprises now.
"It's a good marker to the start of the season. Before we know it, we're going to be in Spring Training," Schlesinger said. "Our fans love it, and as a staff, I wouldn't say it's gotten to the point where it's 'turnkey.'
The Milwaukee Brewers stormed their way into the playoffs with an exceptionally good performance. All the same, with the kind of offence the club boasts, there is a chance of repeating the same in 2012.
However, with Prince Fielder gone and Ryan Braun’s fate hanging in the balance for the season, there is also a possibility that the team might suffer a setback. Nevertheless, confidence remains intact both in the camp and the club as a whole.
