Milwaukee Brewers outsmart Florida Marlins 9-5 to complete three-game series sweep – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers overcame a resilient Florida Marlins 9-5 on Sunday, September 25 to complete a three-game series sweep at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In what can be termed as an archetypal comeback after the midseason break, the Brewers improved their win-loss record to 94-65 for the season. 55 of these wins have come playing at home and with the remaining three games of the season scheduled at Miller
Park against Pittsburgh Pirates, odds of this number augmenting are high.
Nyjer Morgan, playing in his first year for the Brewers, said, "This is a special year, man. I don't want to say too much yet, but yeah, special."
Marlins had no answer to Milwaukee’s aggressive intent. Starter Ricky Nolasco was charged a hefty seven runs in two innings to lose his 12th game of the season. He could not capitalise on Emilio Bonifacio’s first inning homer, leaking three runs
in the second inning to see the Brewers establish a two-run lead. Nolasco pitched to four batters in the third inning but was immediately replaced after giving away four runs.
Sandy Rosario was effective in his only inning as a reliever, giving away just one hit and striking-out a batter to halt the run-scoring spree of the Brewers. Ryan Braun, however, produced a gigantic home-run for Milwaukee in the fourth inning to extend
the lead to seven-runs. Braun has been a sensation this season and is the top contender to bag the batting title.
A capacity crowd at Miller Park cheered “M-V-P” for Braun all through the weekend to appreciate his contribution to the team’s success. Prince Fielder, also a top challenger for MVP this year, expressed that Braun has been magnificent throughout the season
and is more deserving for the award.
Donnie Murphy homered in the fifth inning for the Marlins before Omar Infante produced a two-run double in the seventh inning to reduce the deficit to four-runs. Jerry Hairston Jr. then added one for the Brewers in the seventh inning to reinstate a five-run
and virtually seal the encounter with two innings to play.
Murphy scored his second run in the eighth inning but a resolute last inning by Marco Estrada ensured Brewers a comprehensive win.
