Milwaukee Brewers overwhelm Toronto Blue Jays with 8-3 win – MLB News
Yovani Gallardo took it upon himself on Wednesday, June 20, to help the Milwaukee Brewers gain an emphatic 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Gallardo went into the seventh inning to ensure the decisive victory for the Brewers as the team’s bullpen needed a strong assistance.
With the victory over the Blue Jays, the team also won the three-game series by 2-1. This came a day after the Brewers lost a winning game by 10-9. But that loss was to be recompensated and it was done with striking style by Gallardo.
"Yovani, huge game for us," Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said. "We were really thin in the bullpen today, and we really needed the length from him. And he also threw a great ballgame."
Gallardo allowed three runs in his 6.2 innings spell, having had seven strike-outs compared to Joel Carreno of the Blue Jays who allowed five runs in his 3-inning spell. If there was anything left to be done, it was done by the hitters.
Nonetheless, Gallardo seemed buoyant Wednesday with his phenomenal performance.
"To be honest, I had no idea. But being a starting pitcher, obviously, you want to stay out there as long as you can. Obviously, the goal is to go nine innings every start. You know that's not going to happen 33, 34 starts, whatever it might be. But the deeper you get, the better, and the less the bullpen has to work."
That which created a heap of trouble for the Blue Jays was the fact that they did not have their starting pitchers ready with injuries plaguing them. It was well utilized by Brewers whose hitters went aggressively against Joel Carreno, scoring invaluable runs.
Compared to the bullpen of the Blue Jays which failed to stop the Brewers hitters, Tim Dillard and Michael Fiers overwhelmed the Blue Jays’ hitters.
With the win, the Brewers also compensated the 10-9 loss they had in the second game, winning the series by 2-1. This will provide the much-needed confidence to face the Chicago White Sox on Friday, June 22,  as the team will have a bolstered bullpen for the encounter.
