Milwaukee Brewers overwhelm the Chicago Cubs 7-5 - MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers maintained their poise despite a resurgent Chicago Cubs on Monday, April 09, winning the game 7-5. The three-game series that started at Wrigley Field saw a fierce competition between the rival teams, and eventually ended with the Brewers’ triumph.
Aramis Ramirez, previously associated with the Chicago Cubs, came down hard on the former team, and drove two runs to give the Brewers the safe lead. While Chris Volstad of the Cubs tried to restrain the Brewers hitters, he could not quite arrive at his goal.
Aramis Ramirez of the Brewers scored the first run for the Brewers in the very first inning which was levelled by a homer that Darwin Barney hit. Bryan LaHair of the Cubs hit a homer to score the tiebreaking run but that was equalled by Rickie Weeks homer in the third.
Gonzalez scored in the fourth to score the tiebreaking run again which was levelled by Blake DeWitt of the Cubs in the fifth. As the teams kept scoring, breaking the lead and levelling, Mat Gamel and Jonathan Lucroy scored in the sixth to give a supposedly safe 5-3 lead to the Brewers.
Aramis Ramirez doubled to deep centre, allowing Ryan Braun to score in the 7th to take the lead to 6-3 and Gomez scored in the top of the eighth to make it 7-3 for the Milwaukee Brewers against Lendy Castillo.
Marlon Byrd and Steve Clevenger tried to stage a comeback in the ninth with their respective runs,  but John Axford kept his nerves, sealing the 7-5 victory for the Chicago Cubs when the game came to an end.
Volstad, pitching five innings, gave up three runs and conceded five hits with 5.40 ERA. Shaun Marcum of the Milwaukee Brewers, on the other hand, pitched 6 innings to allow three runs. It was Shawn Camp of the Cubs who gave up three runs in his 2-inning spell, making things difficult for the Cubs.
With the 1-0 lead in the three-game series, the Brewers will go on confidently to confront the Cubs on Tuesday at the Wrigley Field, where the Cubs have to redouble their efforts to tie the series.
