Milwaukee Brewers pin hopes on Yovani Gallardo to contain St. Louis Cardinals’ offence
The Milwaukee Brewers’ manager thinks that Game 3 of the National League Championship Series will be a low-scoring game as they are dispatching their best pitcher Yovani Gallardo to start Wednesday’s game.
Chris Carpenter, on the other hand has been tasked with handling the herculean task of containing the Milwaukee Brewers’ offence, which includes the likes of Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun.
The last two-games have remained a freefall for the starters of both teams. The fact that 30 runs were scored in the first two of best-of-seven series has caused a fair amount of worry and displeasure in both camps.
The developing trend whereby the hitters take on the defence ruthlessly has forced the Brewers to bring in the strongest arm out there to hold off the St. Louis Cardinals’ offence.
The inflationary spiral that the pitchers have witnessed recently has a set of factors that cannot be underestimated. The likes of the hitters that the Brewers have are a challenge to the Cardinals, while Milwaukee must also be mindful of the hitter like
Albert Pujols who singlehandedly changed the course of the last game.
Beating the Brewers 12-3, in which Pujols had five RBIs, the Cardinals made it known to their opponents that they meant business. It is this reason alone that has prompted the Brewers to go for the safest arm in Yovani Gallardo.
"You would think it would be a low-scoring game," Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said. "You never know."
Gallardo, all the same, is not only excited but also determined to do something different.
"For a starting pitcher, it doesn't get any better than this, obviously facing a great pitcher on the other side and a great team," Gallardo said. "I think that Game 5 in the last series is probably the most important game I ever pitched.”
As the two pitchers lock in one of the biggest battles of the post-season, it will be scintillating to watch how the two dismantle the strong offence of both respective teams. Both teams will be looking to come out strong and put in a good performance and
dominate the game early.
