Milwaukee Brewers reflect over positions assigned to the players – MLB News
As the Milwaukee Brewers signed a contract with the Japanese player Norichika Aoki on Tuesday, January 17, the team is now pondering over the position assigned to the players. Corey Hart, according to the general manager Doug Melvin, will be given an occasional
chance at first base, if needed.
It was previously thought that the player shall have his spot secured at right field. However, the Brewers are not showing any undue haste at this juncture. With Spring Training around the corner, the decision shall be taken after considerable assessment.
When Melvin was asked whether the role supposed to be assigned to Corey Hart was first base, his response was that it will not be on a regular basis. But all that, as Melvin hastened to add, will depend on Corey as well.
"Probably not on a regular basis, but [Hart] could fill in a few games here and there," Melvin said. "He played [first] in the Minor Leagues. He also added that if Hart felt comfortable playing at that position, it would be seen in the Spring Training.”
“I don't necessarily consider it being where he's playing there a lot, but if Corey feels comfortable doing it, it's something we would take a look at in Spring Training. I want to make sure Corey feels comfortable about doing it, too, because if he doesn't,
I'm not going to force the issue on him,” said the general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Corey Hart appeared in 130 games last season, with 492 at bats, 80 runs with a .285 batting average. He had 140 hits with 26 home-runs to his credit and 63 RBIs. While his career average stands at .277, the consistency exhibited by this player continues
to be reassuring for the team as a whole.
With Spring Training scheduled for next month, the Milwaukee Brewers will be awaiting it eagerly since they will then decide which players shall have their respective positions in the game. The training sessions will allow the Brewers to test out players
at various positions as they play against some of the top tier teams in the League.
