Milwaukee Brewers’ relief pitcher Tyler Thornburg could reassume the role of starter – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke on Friday, July 27, hinted that pitcher Tyler Thornburg may have his starter’s role back before the end of the season. Thornburg is currently pitching as a relief pitcher for the Brewers.
He had to exit Thursday’s game against the Washington Nationals, due to a tired arm, wherein the Brewers lost by 8-2. The defeat was another big blow to the team and Thornburg’s exit caused a little concern if he was really fit.
Nonetheless, the team manager dispelled the impression pertaining to any injury and said Thornburg is fit to restart his role as the starter.
"There's a plan, but that changes at times," Roenicke said. "This is a way of keeping down some of his innings. [Members of the Brewers front office] feel like he has developed as a starter, and we'll see what happens where we get into September, but he could end up starting again at the end of the season and giving us at least a better read on him for next year."
Thornburg has so far appeared in five games for the Brewers this season. He was brought in to pitch as the starters. He did, be that as it may, start a couple of games.
The 23-year-old player is competing in the Major Leagues for the first time this season, after having remained in Minor Leagues for years.
Having made 44 starts in the Minor League, Thornburg is expected to do well as the starter when he gets on the mound. He is bracing himself for that big role. Minor League is essentially different from the Major League, but all he needs is adjustment.
"When you go that long, your body just doesn't remember how to do that," Thornburg said. "Once your arm gets used to it, and once you do it a couple times, it's completely adjusted."
It remains to be seen if Thornburg will click as the effective starter for the Milwaukee Brewers at a time when Zack Greinke is all set to be traded before the impending Trade Deadline of July 31.
