Milwaukee Brewers sign Kelvim Escobar to minor-league contract – MLB Update
Relief pitcher Kelvim Escobar is potentially returning to Major League as he recently has signed with Milwaukee Brewers. Escobar has not played since 2009 when he used to play with the New York Mets.
Later he got injured and since then remained out from baseball field. Now once again he is quite hopeful for his return as he signed with the Brewers to a Minor League contract.
“A source tells me that Escobar isn’t even able to grip a baseball right now, and there are concerns that he’s seriously injured,” Craig Calcaterra said back in 2010 at the time of his injury and told some reporters in detail.
If Escobar does well in the Minor League, he will surely get invitation to represent the Brewers in the Major League. Looking at Escobar’s career stats, experts rate him among some of the best closers.
“He'll get plenty of opportunity in the bullpen, and we'll see what he can do," assistant general manager Gord Ash said. "He has done both (starting and relieving) and done them well, but I always thought he was dominant out of the bullpen."
He currently carries career 4.15 ERA along with 59 saves, 1310 strikeouts and 1.37 WHIP. Within the Brewers roster, some players are already showing confidence that with the arrival of Escobar, they will be strong offensively.
Currently the Brewers have some good relievers including John Axford, Burke Badenhop, Fautino De Los Santos and if they all played well, the chances are high that Milwaukee side will be tough to beat in the next Major League Baseball season.
Relief pitcher experienced John Axford currently carries 3.06 ERA along with 106 saves, 264 strikeouts and 1.27 WHIP. In the last MLB outing, he achieved consistent numbers of 4.67 ERA along with 35 saves, 93 strikeouts and 1.44 WHIP.
Relief pitcher Burke Badenhop also did well in the last season as he achieved 3.03 ERA along with 42 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP while his career ERA of 4.08 ERA along with two saves, 232 strikeouts and 1.34 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the league.
