Milwaukee Brewers sign deal with Carlos Gomez – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers are in for another contract as reports have it that the club has signed a deal of $2 million, spanning for a year, with Carlos Gomez. He is a centre-fielder who was an arbitration-eligible player.
This deal comes at an auspicious time for the centre-fielder primarily because he was unable to show up in the second half of the season due to breaking his collarbone. The deal is certainly good news for the Brewers due to a variety of reasons.
If nothing else, there is an apparently threatening prospect of the proficient hitter Ryan Braun’s 50-game suspension due to the failed drug test. While he has already filed an appeal, the result is unknown yet.
Add to it the fact that the Brewers failed to secure a deal with the free-agent Prince Fielder who is demanding a huge sum for a contract. In the potential absence of these players, who helped the Brewers get into the playoffs last year, the club will have
numerous difficulties to overcome.
In 94 games that Gomez appeared, he had an average of .225. What elevated him the most was obviously his performance in the post-season games whereby he had a record of 5-17. As a whole, the 2011 season was pretty good for the player.
He had 24 RBIs with 16 stolen bases to his credit, having hit eight homers while empowering the team’s offence. While his injury might have gravely impacted him and the team, the fact remains that his defence and speed make him a favourite candidate for
the team.
The Milwaukee Brewers are now apparently meticulously making their move to avoid any untoward situation with the arrival of the new season. With complications that came their way early, the 2012 season, they hope, will be a harbinger of good times.
The team had lived up to the expectations of the fans and critics in 2011 with their forceful performance throughout the year. It is to be seen whether the Milwaukee Brewers remain as impressive as they had previously been in the upcoming 2012 regular season.
