Milwaukee Brewers sign left-handed reliever Tom Gorzelanny – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers have signed left hander reliever Tom Gorzelanny to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million. He last played for the Washington Nationals and achieved consistent numbers.
Earlier it was expected that Washington Nationals will re-sign him but later, he decided to sign with the Milwaukee Brewers. Brewers also needed a good player and especially a pitcher who will carry forward the franchise’s burden into the next Major League Baseball season.
Playing in the last Major League Baseball season, Tom Gorzelanny achieved good numbers of 2.88 ERA along with 4-2 win-loss, 62 strikeouts and 1.32 WHIP. Overall, he also possesses good career numbers of 4.41 ERA along with 44-45 win-loss 568 strikeouts and 1.44 WHIP.
Tom Gorzelanny is a highly talented individual and has large Major League experience. He started his career in 2005 from the Pittsburgh Pirates and later went onto play for the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals.
Meanwhile, the Brewers seem much happy that they have signed a utility player. The Brewers management, who was very disappointed on their last season’s poor results, is potentially bringing some new changes in the roster for a better beginning.
They have good set of starters but at the same time they need some fire power in the infield. Justin Upton is currently garnering interest from the Brewers. He last played for the Arizona Diamondbacks but the Brewers want a potential trade.
Though the Diamondback GM Kevin Towers has denied any possibility of Upton’s trade but still many say if Brewers remained determined, they will get a positive answer from Arizona side.
“We never came close at all, no closer than the last two years when we went to the winter meetings, We value this kid very highly -- for obvious reasons -- and you know, we said the only way that we would talk about moving Justin is if we got a package back that made us a better ball club in 2013 and beyond, and that didn't happen,” Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf.
He added, "We're happy to have him here and we think we're a better ball club with him."
The next few weeks potentially before the Spring Training will decide where Upton will be playing in the next season.
