Milwaukee Brewers sign shortstop Alex Gonzalez – MLB Update
The Milwaukee Brewers has signed shortstop Alex Gonzalez for a one year deal. Though earlier news came out in the media that Brewers’ will not sign Gonzalez as they want to add some more fire power on the mound, but now it has been confirmed that the thirteen-year old Major League veteran will be showing his talents in Milwaukee.
The deal is worth $1 million but still his physical is pending. Gonzalez is recovering from torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee but experts believe that he will certainly clear his physical with the Brewers.
Some say the Brewers manager Doug Melvin is the key man behind who initiated this deal. Though Gonzalez was part of Brewers roster in the last Major League Baseball season but as the season was ended, he and Brewers did not show any enthusiasm re-signing.
"We love Segura," Melvin said Oct. 4, in wrapping up the Brewers' season.
"We think he's a major-league shortstop. But over the course of a year we know you need depth. Depth is so important - especially at a position like that. When someone gets hurt, look how tough it is to find somebody."
“Pumped to get Alex Gonzalez back!!” left-hander Chris Narveson, who also suffered an early season-ending injury last year, tweeted soon after the deal went public. “Great teammate and clubhouse presence.”
Gonzalez batted well in the last season and achieved consistent numbers of .259 hitting average along with four home runs, 15 RBIs and .326 OBP. Overall he also possesses good career hitting average of .247 along with 156 home runs, 680 RBIs and .292 OBP.
Now with the re-signing of Gonzalez, the Brewers offence will be more powerful. They have already some great infielders in the roster and with his presence too, the Milwaukee side will be coming with added confidence in the next season.
Currently the Brewers have also Mat Gamel and Corey Hart who are certainly talented individuals. Both players have consistent past record and considered offensive players. If all things went well, the Brewers’ will certainty try hard to dominate the first half of the season.
