Milwaukee Brewers’ starter not inclined to talk about contract extension – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers’ ace pitcher Zack Greinke on Monday, February 20, refused to comment on the status of the talks between him and the team over the fate of his contract. Greinke is in the last year of his two-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Expressing his annoyance over the questions pertaining to the contract, Greinke said he did not want to talk about it at the moment.
"I'm not even going to talk about that," he said after a midday mound session. "Sorry. I get annoyed when other people talk about it, and I already did earlier. It's the same stuff. Nothing has changed."
Greinke has not hired any agent either to proceed with the talks. As Greinke shall have his contract expire once the season ends, he will have earned over $13 million as the total amount for this year.
"I'm not going to hire an agent for a while," Greinke said. "There's no reason to have one at the moment."
The real strength of Milwaukee Brewers indeed lies in their potent offence. However, it is also an undeniable fact that the defence has put in a decent performance over the last few years, coming across as a force to reckon with.
After all, they did unusually well to win the National League Division Series after 28 years, marking the remarkable change they have undergone to mature into an undefeatable team in Major League Baseball.
Greinke’s role was of crucial importance in shaping the Brewers victory. Of the 28 games that he played in the season, his ERA of 3.83, winning 16 of the games with 201 strike-outs was a true highlight for the team. His strike-outs remained seventh in the
National League, and winning percentage stood at fourth.
Currently he is working with the pitching coach Rick Kranitz. This will help him a great deal to improve his pitching and prepare him well enough for the new season. For now it is not the contract which is in his mind. Greinke’s focus, as can be seen, is
to give a good performance to merit wider attention not only by the Brewers but also the other teams for a contract.
