Milwaukee Brewers take on Cincinnati Reds in three-game series – MLB News
Milwaukee Brewers take on Cincinnati Reds in three-game series, starting from Tuesday, September 25. The Reds have already won the National League Central Division title and are all set to figure in the playoffs, while the Brewers are competing for a Wild Card spot.
While the Reds will be perfectly placed to make preparations for the postseason games, it is the Brewers that have to put all efforts to win the remaining games in order to book their place in the playoffs.
Cardinals won their Monday’s game against the Astros, taking their lead further with just over three games above the Brewers. For Milwaukee, it is Mike Fiers who will have the start, coming on the mound in a very crucial game.
Fiers seems confident about doing his best and putting in a good performance for his team. He has challenges to grapple with, especially when he has already tossed just over 172 innings this season – in both Triple-A Nashville and his MLB team. The last start did not remain particularly good for him.
"I don't think that's the deal for me. I still feel strong," Fiers said. "I'm just not hitting my spots. I'm not getting it done. I have pitched the most innings I have ever pitched, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse. It's just bad pitching on my part."
For Fiers, last eight starts have barely been even average, given his 6.75 ERA. The pitcher who had a rather strong start earlier in the season seems to have been struggling for a while now. Whether he makes amend in Tuesday’s start is something to be seen.
Facing Fiers is Johnny Cueto, an otherwise accomplished starter who has struggled in his last three starts, having had a 8.22 ERA. With a 18-9 win-loss record, Cueto has 2.84 ERA, something that he will have an opportunity to improve here.
The game retains importance for the Brewers which are competing for a Wild Card spot. For the Reds, it is Cueto who has to put things in order as postseason games are close. Which team eventually prevails will be a treat to watch in Tuesday’s game and the series as a whole.
