Milwaukee Brewers to decide future course if Aramis Ramirez’s injury persists – MLB News
As the cleanup hitter Aramis Ramirez was sidelined due to a lower back strain, the Milwaukee Brewers have now recalled infielder Taylor Green from Triple-A Nashville. The decision seemed inevitable given the depth that the Brewers needed at third base.
Ramirez had injured his back on Wednesday while playing against the Miami Marlins. It was during the seventh inning while he was having an at-bat when it happened. Even though the team won that game 8-5, Thursday was not a particularly good day for the Brewers.
The club lost the game to Miami Marlins by 2-6 as Ramirez was not there in the line-up. With the injury that the Brewers hope is not serious, Ron Roenicke, the team manager shall speak to Ramirez before making any other decision.
"You always worry about those things, because they can be more than what the player thinks," Roenicke said. "He says, 'I don't think it's that bad, maybe just a day.' Sometimes it turns into a lot more than that."
There is no denying the fact that if the Brewers lose Ramirez, it will be a huge blow to the team. With a .295 average, hitting 21 homers and 89 RBIs, Ramirez had been instrumental in bringing victories to the club. His 143 hits coupled with 43 RBIs remain as evidence of his instrumentality.
Jeff Bianchi replaced Ramirez on Thursday, a player who has impressed Roenicke with the performance he has exhibited. But the question stays if he will be able to demonstrate the kind of performance Ramirez has shown provided he gets a chance there.
"You've got a good athlete, a good shortstop who shouldn't be a problem at third," Roenicke said. "You're a little closer to the ball there. The throw is a little easier, but [Bianchi's] got good footwork and good hands. It shouldn't be a problem."
With .198 average in 44 games, on the other hand, Green is most likely to replace Ramirez if the injury takes longer than the Brewers are expecting to recover. The Brewers will be looking to put in a good performance for a victory to make it to a possible spot in the post-season.
