Milwaukee Brewers to decide on starting Nyjer Morgan or Carlos Gomez in centre-field – MLB Playoffs
As the National League Championship Series gradually gets into the decisive phase, the Milwaukee Brewers are undecided on either starting Carlos Gomez or Nyjer Morgan in centre-field in Game 3.
The fluctuation in the performance of Carlos Gomez recently has subjected his inclusion for Wednesday’s game to debate, as he has been 20 at-bats in the post-season so far with a record of 3-for-20.
The fact that Chris Carpenter is to start Wednesday’s game against the Brewers, Gomez’s playing or not playing becomes all the more important. While Gomez has yet to face Carpenter in any game, Morgan has a record of 4-for-23.
What actually adds the name of Gomez as a favourite who might get preference over Morgan on Wednesday, is the fact that he has a home-run and a 3-for-9 record in the post-season games.
"It's something that we've talked about," Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said. "We'll talk about it again. I think it's important for us to score as many runs as we can against a very good pitcher, and sometimes, you try something a little bit new.”
There was also a noisy encounter that the fans and team witnessed on Monday involving Morgan and some of the Cardinals’ players. Both Gomez and Morgan share the same amount of experience as each has four years, apart from the fact that Gomez is six years
younger than Morgan.
While Gomez had an average of .225 throughout the regular season, having .333 in the National League, Morgan had a .304 average in the regular season. His performance has plummeted in the NL where he has only a .150 average to his credit.
The decision to go with Gomez or Morgan is crucial as each team is getting closer for the possible chance to play in the World Series. Regardless of which player is chosen to play centre-field, the Brewers will be looking to put in a good performance and
dominate the Cardinals early in Game 3.
With so much riding on the playoff games, it will be interesting to see which player the Brewers decide to start for Wednesday’s match.
