Milwaukee Brewers to keep the coaching staff unchanged for 2013 – MLB News
Milwaukee Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke on Tuesday, October 2, announced that the team’s coaching staff will remain intact for 2013, days after the team were eliminated from the Wild Card hunt.
Facing criticism due to the performance that the team put up as a whole in the first half of the season, the Brewers could not quite do what they were able to achieve the past year, making it to the postseason games.
However, second half was comparatively better where the Brewers made a spectacular comeback and outshone the rivals.
After bullpen coach Stan Kyles was dismissed by the Brewers, it was Lee Tunnell who took the charge and completely altered the bullpen outlook. Others in the staff who will return are hitting coach Johnny Narron, bench coach Jerry Narron, pitching coach Rick Kranitz, first and third-bases coach Garth Lorg and Ed Sedar.
Ron Roenicke briefly touched upon the past year’s performance and gave his view the transformations that gradually swept the line-up.
"We struggled a lot last year at times, and I think the way we started off and you have a new hitting coach in, you're saying, 'Well, do guys just not mesh with the new guy, or what's the case?'" Roenicke said. "I'm not going to say that those things didn't enter my mind at the time, too, because you always wonder what's going to happen with guys, and certain personalities.”
The bullpen made adjustments and was on their feet again after the initial hiccups. The team manager, therefore, was all praise for Kranitz and Tunnell.
Brewers will play their last game of the season on Wednesday, scheduled against the San Diego Padres. It was in the series against the Houston Astros wherein the Brewers were formally out of the Wild Card race as the former won by 2-1 in the three-game series.
Nonetheless, the Brewers made a remarkable comeback both offensively and defensively after the poor showing in the first half of the season. With the lessons learnt, they hope to come up with a stronger line-up in the coming season with a predictably fierce competition.
