Milwaukee Brewers top Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 in thrilling contest – MLB Update
Rickie Weeks’ lead-off run on Ryan Braun’s sacrifice fly, followed by two runs by Carlos Gomez and Prince Fielder in the 12th inning of the game surged the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in a thrilling contest at
the Citizens Bank Park, on Monday.
The Brewers were winning the game 3-2 before Pete Orr levelled the score with his RBI single in the ninth inning that extended the game to extra innings which was eventually won by Brewers in the 12th.
Joe Blanton started the proceedings for the Phillies and pitched seven strong innings that only composed of 98 pitches. He gave away two runs on seven hits and struck out four hitters. Ryan Madson followed him with one run inning. J.C Romero and David Herndon,
combined to pitch the ninth inning before Kyle Kendrick lost the game with a ‘three run’ 12th inning.
For the Brewers, Shaun Marcum started the pitching and threw six innings that only leaked one run on five hits. Sean Green followed him with an expensive ‘one run’ 0.1 innings. John Axford who came at the end to save the game, could not complete his job
and gave away a game-tying run in the ninth inning. With a lead of three runs for the Brewers in the top of the 12th inning, Brandon Kintzler came on the pitcher’s mound to win his first game of the season with a hitless 12th inning.
Kintzler threw two innings in the game and gave away nothing.

3rd inning:
Jonathan Lucroy scored the game-tying run on Gomez’ single to the left-field, Gomez then advanced to the second base on a throw.
Gomez put the Brewers ahead with his run as Ryan Braun singled to right-field.
7th inning:
Wilson Valdez scored on Shane Victorino’s ground hit, taking the score to 2-2.
8th inning:
Braun scored on Yuniesky Betancourt’s ground out to third.
9th inning:
Pete Orr levelled the score with his single to the left-centre.
12th inning:
Rickie Weeks scored the lead-off run on Braun’s sacrifice fly to centre.
Gomez scored on Betancourt’s sacrifice fly to the left-field, as Fielder reached third base.
Fielder scored on Lucroy’s single to right-field, increasing the Brewers’ lead that remained decisive until the end of the 12th inning.

Phillies’ right hand pitcher Roy Oswalt, who strained his back during a game against the Marlins on Friday, is now declared fit to play his next scheduled game on Thursday. Oswalt threw 40 pitches in a bull-pen season on Monday.
