Milwaukee Brewers trade infielder Casey McGehee to Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB News
Just after signing free agent Aramis Ramirez, the Milwaukee Brewers have taken a very bold decision of trading their infielder Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-handed reliever Jose Veras.
McGehee’s three year stint with the Brewers was relevantly good as he was named Rookie of the Year in 2008 while improving his game further. He was named the Milwaukee Brewers’ Most Valuable Player in 2010.
But the poor level of performance in 2011 led the Brewers to think of trading him to the Pirates and in return, they signed Jose Veras, who is currently considered a well developed player who especially down the stretch plays very offensive and does not
allow any player to dominate him.
Later, the Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin also said in the media about trading Casey and receiving a good player like Veras.
He explained in detail, “Casey was a very productive player for us, He was a great teammate; great on the club. I love his story about coming out of nowhere. I talked to Casey and told him to go out with the same attitude he had when he came here. He was
disappointed; he and his family liked it here. I think it surprised him. We felt we needed to find some offense (with Ramirez), I still think Casey can bounce back. But bringing in Ramirez, this is better for Casey to go somewhere.”
Many believe that only seeing on a particular season’s performance and trading a player does not make any sense instead intelligent managements always take these issues seriously and do not hurry for anything which will ultimately going to give them short
term benefits.
But for some other baseball experts, this late decision of Brewers management did weigh some logic and trading McGehee is a perfect decision as his game had been poorly deteriorated over the one whole year and his timely trade will benefit more in the near
future.
On the other hand, in return the Brewers new prospect Jose Veras is also a very good player and his game is also likely to boost in the upcoming days.
