Milwaukee Bucks Brandon Jennings eyeing future with big market teams - NBA Update
Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings has been the spine of his side for last two seasons. He is easily the most talented player on the roster and the Bucks are definitely expecting to build a team around him in the future.
However, Jennings seems to have planned his future differently.
On Thursday night, in an interview to the ESPN.com, Jennings revealed that he wishes to play for the championship contenders in the years ahead and wants to give himself a shot at winning his first NBA World Championship title.
"I am going to keep my options open, knowing that the time is coming up,'' Jennings said
Jennings' rookie three year contract with the Bucks is due to expire by the end of this season and after that he would be left with two options. He can either extend his contract with Bucks or become a free agent and explore other options.
With what he said in the interview, it is very clear that he would prefer the latter.
Jennings though said that this is not the final decision and it is just an option that he would love to explore. According to him, Bucks have given him a lot in these three years and he does not want to disappoint Milwaukee fans.
"I'm not saying I won't (sign an extension with the Bucks) and I'm not saying I will,'' he said. "I'm just keeping my options open.'' "It has nothing to do with the city of Milwaukee or anything like that because that's where I started my career,'' Jennings said. "They've been nothing but good to me. (Coach) Scott Skiles and (general manager) John Hammond have been good to me. It's just that I'm understanding the business of basketball now.''
Jennings, despite an impressive start to his career, is yet to establish himself as one of the best players in the league. There is still a lot of work to be done in order to reach the level of elite players but he believes that playing along with NBA giants like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and others in future would help his cause big time.
Therefore if he moves to any other team in the future, it won’t come as a surprise. Many players like LeBron, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony have done this in the past to give themselves the best chance at winning a championship. Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard s doing the same now and the trend is apparently on a rise.
