Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut is heading to Australia this fall: NBA Update
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked its players over labour turbulence with the Players Association and this lockout has been forcing many players to play overseas. Several reports have confirmed that Milwaukee
Bucks’ centre Andrew Bogut has been in talks with some Australian basketball clubs and is vying to star in the Australian NBL while the lockout lasts.
The Perth Wildcats, Adelaide 36ers and especially Sidney Kings are the teams that have been in the loop to land Bogut. Andrew Bogut has also recently confirmed that he is in talks with several Australian teams when he commented
on a social media website.
“I can confirm I am in talks with SEVERAL @NBL clubs, a long way to go yet though …. Stay tuned kiddies!”
The Sydney Kings is the first team which has confirmed about these potential talks with Bogut. Kings’ general manager David Wolf recently said,
“There have been initial discussions, Adelaide and Perth are talking it up. We don't want to do that. But, are we in the mix to secure Andrew Bogut? Yes, we are. It's not every day that the best Australian player in the NBA wants
to play in Australia. And, if he wants to do that, we want him playing at the best club, which is the Kings. We're keen to explore it. We are absolutely interested in seeing Andrew in a Kings singlet."
Wolf further described that these all discussions are not finalize yet and will take some time to confirm about Bogut’s potential coming into the Sydney Kings this fall.
Bogut, who has relatively a good experience in the league, can be very beneficial for the Kings. He has been playing in the league for almost six years with great energy. He was drafted in 2005 when the Milwaukee Bucks selected him first overall in
the 2005 NBA draft.
Before coming into NBA, Bogut played for the University of Utah for two years. His brilliant ball play earned him great name even in his college days. Bogut was named ‘freshman of the year’ in 2003-2004 where he averaged 12.5 points
and 9.9 rebounds per game.
Bogut’s bright game soon landed him in the NBA where the Bucks’ selected him in the first round of draft. He impressed right from his first season. Bogut averaged 9.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his rookie season and earned
great acknowledgment from many basketball experts. Last season, he played total 65 games and averaged 12.8 points, 11.10 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
