Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut keen to end his career in Australian NBL: NBA Update
During the NBA lockout, Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut has been in continuous talks with Australian basketball clubs to pave way for a stint. In that stretch, Sydney Kings emerged as the most likely franchise to land Bogut.
However the deal was stymied due to the heavy insurance policy cost and the Sydney Kings had to start the season without Bogut.
Bogut may have missed the boat this time around, but the Buck centre has said that his heart always has been with the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) and he would like to finish his career with the Aussie league;
"(I will) probably finish my NBA career (first). The collective bargaining comes up every five years, bar a lockout; I'd never have a chance to play in the NBL because the seasons are at the same time. But I'll definitely look
at it towards the end of my career." Bogut said.
Bogut was selected with the first overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2005 NBA draft. In no time, Bogut was tipped as the next big thing, and finished third in the race for the 2006 NBA Rookie of the Year award.
Although a sprain in the left foot stopped his emergence somewhat, however, he still managed to captivate the league.
During the six NBA seasons, Andrew Bogut averaged 12.7 points and 9.4 rebound per game, posting a career-high average of 11.1 boards in the last season. In the 2010-2011 season, Andrew also led the NBA in blocks per game which
shows the kind of influence he brings on the court at the centre position.
During the Lockout, Andrew Bogut has reportedly been approached by a number of NBL franchises including Adelaide 36ers and Gold Coast. However, Andrew has always taken a liking to the Sydney Kings and it is where sees his future;
“They are pretty powerful people, not just basketball-wise, but in the sense of Australian business, so they know what they are doing, they all run multi-million dollar businesses they know how to run a business, that was very
impressive to me."
For time being though, Bogut can only watch the Kings from sidelines.
