Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut says his elbow is getting better – NBA Update
Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut has revealed that his elbow injury is on the mend. In an interview, Bogut revealed that his elbow, though not completely healed, was a lot better than before and he was hopeful that more progress
will be made in this regard soon.
Bogut suffered a horrible injury back in 2010 and underwent surgery. He missed shooting practice last off-season and his elbow still didn’t heal properly. The combination of lack of practice and the injury reduced the player’s
offensive output considerably in the 2010-2011 season.
Bogut was clearly not comfortable with his shooting and his percentage from the field went down as a result. The player also lost a bit of confidence in his shot, meaning that he attempted a lesser number overall. The effect was
most damaging from the free throw line where Bogut’s percentage went down from 62.9 percent to a meagre 44 percent - Shaquille O’Neal-esque numbers.
He averaged 12.8 points per game and 11.1 rebounds over the last season, numbers that do not befit his obvious talent.
As a result Bogut underwent surgery again at the end of last season and now the players is reasonably confident that the worst is behind him, even though there is still room for improvement in the situation,
“It’s good. It’s much better. I had to get surgery again at the start of April. The Bucks told me to stop playing and have surgery. It’s not totally pain free, but it’s much, much better than last season. I’m training and shooting
in the last month and I’m very happy with where I’m now, but there’s still much more to do.”
The Milwaukee Bucks would certainly be hoping the player can recover and make the big impact they expect out of him. The Bucks drafted the 7-foot centre back in 2005, hoping he would turn the fortunes of the club. His first season
at the franchise was very promising, but Bogut has been plagued by injury issues since then. The player failed to compete in the complete 82 games for even a single season after his first.
Still, Bogut is one of the better centres around and, when healthy, can be a real asset to his side. The Bucks are banking on Bogut to play his part next season when they could make a concerted run at the playoffs.
Stephen Jackson would give the Bucks quite a bit of bite and they are expecting young point guard Brandon Jennings to play a big part as well. Jennings won the Rookie of the Year award in the season before last, but injuries have
hampered his progress since then.
If Jennings and Bogut can be fit, Milwaukee could be a strong team next season.
