Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut set to join NBL team Melbourne Tigers: NBA News
The departure of the National Basketball League (NBL) superstar Patty Mills earlier this week might have hurt the Melbourne Tigers deeply in making a run for the championship this season. However, a new door has opened for the Tigers to continue their domination for the 2012 title fight.
According to latest reports, Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut has indicated to play in NBL if the National Basketball Association Lockout completely wipes out the 2011-2012 season.
With the exodus of Patty Mills, who left the team to secure a more lucrative contract with the Chinese club Xinjiang Flying Tigers for a year, the Melbourne Tigers have been on the lookout for a possible replacement.
Andrew Bogut will be the best man for the Tigers to replace Mills and provide team the kind of boost they need at the moment.
Bogut’s manager Bruce Kaider also declared that his client might make a shift in NBL. However, the final call will only be made once it’s official that NBA will lose an entire season.
''It's a bit too early to talk about it. The lockout could resolve itself in the next few weeks. If that's the case, we are not going to go back on this roller-coaster of negotiations with NBL teams until we exactly know what is happening with the NBA. At that point we will weigh up our options. The NBL will be an option but likewise will be every other team in Europe that has shown interest in him.'' Kaider said.
The majority owner of Melbourne Tigers Seamus McPeake has already shown his strong desire to land the NBA superstar Andrew Bogut. Although, Andrew will get a bigger contract somewhere else in Europe or China if he plans to sign overseas, however, signing with an Australian club will give him an opportunity to spend some time close to him home.
In the beginning of the NBL season, Bogut was on the verge of joining Sydney Kings. However the insurance issue hampered the deal from getting matured.
However things might be different for the Milwaukee Bucks’ big man next time around. If there will be no NBA season and considering the after-effects of decertification, Andrew might not need to have an insurance which will make it easier for him to sign anywhere.
''There are a lot of things that could play out that could be interesting that we don't necessarily know the answers to. There are a few things that need to happen before we can say one way or another if he will play.'' Kaider said.
