Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut set to play for Sydney Wildcats: NBA Update
There is a strong possibility that Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut might play for the Australian professional basketball club, Sydney Wildcats this fall. After weeks of talks on telephone, the Bucks’ star himself flew to Sydney
and met with the Kings’ management recently.
After a long meeting with Kings general manager David Wolf and the other members of the board he came out in the media told the reporters,
“It is obviously a unique market and the Kings are an icon brand here in Sydney, so Sydney's definitely a huge chance, the insurance is the No. 1 thing at the moment. It's definitely an option. There's three teams all up; Adelaide,
Sydney and Gold Coast. Still the main hurdle at the moment is the insurance. Once we get a bit more information in the next two to three days we can sit down and make a decision.”
Bogut also told the media that he and his agent have no plans to go to the Gold Coast and Adelaide for any potential contract with them. The statement in the context of reports that he was also approached by the Gold Coast Blaze
and Adelaide 36ers for a potential contract.
The Perth Wildcats are already out of the race to sign Bogut for their next season. Although, no official statement came out, but the Wildcats’ managing director Nick Marvin did state that Bogut is not an option for the Wildcats’
at the moment. Bogut’s potential signing was halted because of Wildcats’ poor financial conditions as their management cannot afford his $500,000 insurance cover.
After meeting with Bogut and his agent, the Kings general manager David Wolf also spoke to the media and said, “I can tell you he has a genuine desire to grow the profile of basketball in this country.”
The lockout in the league is the reason why many NBA players are considering playing overseas. Many professional players have already signed with different international basketball clubs and still there are plenty, who are considering
playing overseas during the work stoppage in the league.
Andrew Bogut, who has relatively a good experience in the league and can take the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) to new professional and commercial heights. Last year with the buck, he played a total of 65 games and
averaged 12.8 points, 11.10 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
