Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut still waiting on insurance deal with Sydney Kings - NBA Update
Milwaukee Bucks centre Andrew Bogut has been a busy man for the past few weeks. The Bucks big, who is an Australian national, has been quite keen on getting a stint in the Australian NBL while NBA is in a lockout, however the insurance
issues seem to be hindering that move.
Bogut’s current contract with the Milwaukee Bucks is astounding $39million and he has been Sydney Kings hard to secure an insurance policy for his current contract with the Bucks. He was scheduled to play in the season opener for
the Kings against Melbourne on Friday night but later some news confirmed as he will not be playing in that particular game due to the lingering insurance policy dispute with the Kings’ management.
Earlier, Andrew Bogut’s management company revealed his affiliation with the Kings via a social networking website Twitter. “Update on (Andrew Bogut). He is committed to the (NBL). He would like to play for (the Sydney Kings).
Insurance is still not finalised.”
Last month, Andrew Bogut himself flew to Sydney and had a brief meeting with the Kings’ management and their high officials. He talked to the top officials of the Kings’ and expressed his desire to play for Sydney Kings in this
summer. The Kings’ general manager David Wolf and some other board members have also showed their great interest to bring Bogut into the King’s roster as they said in the media,
“It is obviously a unique market and the Kings are an icon brand here in Sydney, so Sydney's definitely a huge chance, the insurance is the No. 1 thing at the moment. There's three teams all up; Adelaide, Sydney and Gold Coast.
Once we get a bit more information in the next two to three days we can sit down and make a decision.”
The lockout in the NBA is the main reason why Andrew Bogut and so many other professional basketball players are considering playing overseas. Along with many other disadvantages, this work stoppage is certainly provoking these
league players to go abroad this summer. Many players have already made deals with several international basketball clubs and still there are plenty of players who are still thinking playing overseas.
No one knows as how long this lockout will prevail in the league. Despite many negotiations between the league owners and the players association, no positive result has come out as yet.
