Milwaukee Bucks in talks with Sidney Moncrief for the assistant coach slot: NBA Update
After the departure of the Kelvin Sampson, the Milwaukee Bucks have been looking to fill the vacant spot in head coach Scott Skiles’ staff. Sampson moved to the Houston Rockets recently as an assistant to their new head coach Kevin
McHale.
For this very purpose, the franchise had some initial talks with their former player and ex-shooting coach of the Golden State Warriors Sidney Moncrief.  The franchise wants Sidney to return to the team, but this time as a coaching
subordinate. According the reports though, the deal has not been completed yet.
Moncrief was picked up as the 5th overall pick in the 1979 National Basketball Association Draft by the Bucks. He spent most of his career with the Bucks (spent 10 out of 11 seasons with Milwaukee). Moncrief remained
an NBA All-Star on five successive occasions from 1982-1986. During the same tenure, he was also named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice in back to back years (1983 and 1984).
Besides that, Moncrief was selected once for the All-NBA First Team and four times for both All-NBA Second Team and NBA All-Defensive First Team.
Moncrief is not short of the coaching experience. Seven years after his retirement, Moncrief joined University of Arkansas-Little Rock as head coach and remained with them for one season. At the end of the season though, his statistics
were not very appealing as Trojans won just 4 games and lost 24 under Moncrief.
After the initial stumble, Moncrief took a long break and returned to basketball after six years, this time as the head coach of the Fort Worth Flyers a basketball team in NBA Development League. In 2007, he made a comeback in
NBA and joined the Warriors.
The Bucks failed to register a berth in the 2011 playoffs. The franchise finished the regular-season on the ninth spot and missed the postseason by three wins. During their previous season campaign, Milwaukee achieved the unsatisfactory
record of 35-47. Moreover, the Bucks are a young team devoid of any superstar. So this would not be an easy assignment for Moncrief, if he gets a chance.
