Milwaukee Bucks make late come back to beat Philadelphia 76ers – NBA Recap
On Monday night at the Bradley Center, Beno Udrih drilled a jumper with only 58.2 clicks left in the game to help the Milwaukee Bucks sneak past Philadelphia 76ers 97 – 93.
Bucks had lost 12 out of their last 16 games and were yearning for a breakthrough. They finally got one on Monday with 4 players hitting the double figure index.
They were marshalled by Brandon Jennings who netted a game high 33 points and had 7 assists. Jennings was fantastic throughout the night and it was him who passed the ball to Udrih for the winning shot.
"I found him, he made the play he knocked down the shot, and that was huge. That was huge for us." Brandon exclaimed.
Drew Gooden collected 25 and had 10 rebounds while Ersan Ilyasova also had a double-double with 18 boards and 11 points. Mike Dunleavy chipped in with 10 points coming off the bench as Milwaukee snapped a 3 game losing streak.
The Sixers also had 4 players in double figures led by Louis Williams, who netted 26, and Andre Iguodala came up 16 points and 5 assists. Thaddeus Young recorded the only double-double for his team as he scored 14 points and had 13 boards while Jodie Meeks came up with 13 points in Philadelphia’s 17th loss of this shortened NBA season. They have now lost 7 of the last 9.
It was a low shooting night as Bucks hit 39.8% from the floor and connected on 87.0% from the charity stripe while the away side came up with 37.2% and 69.6% respectively.
"It was a grind-out game. We held them to a low percentage from the field, and they still had 20 offensive rebounds”. Gooden said. “We kept containing them. They had a lot of second-chance points and a lot of points in the paint, but we grinded it out. We responded when we needed to respond."
Bucks were leading with 20-12 midway through the opening frame but with a 12-2 spurt, the Sixers switched places with them, 24 – 22, and capped off the segment after augmenting their lead to 33-28.
Milwaukee didn’t have an answer for the Sixers in the second frame, and although the scores remained close, Philadelphia always looked the stronger team. With a 55-51 Philadelphia lead, the teams headed towards the locker rooms.
The Bucks shifted gears in the 3rd frame and with 5:16 in hand, scores at 67-60, they raced off to a huge 14-4 run to place themselves ahead of the away side, 74-71.
The game kept on shifting momentum in the final 12 minutes and finally it reached its climax with scores tied at 93 each; last 1 minute and 11 seconds left on clock.
Udrih sent the crowd into frenzy after hitting a 15-footer, the jumper giving Bucks a 95-93 advantage. Afterwards Iguodala fouled Ilyasova who chipped in a pair from the free throw line and augmented Milwaukee’s margin to 97-93.
