Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings set sights on the All-Star status – NBA News
Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings might have had an underwhelming season last time out, but that hasn’t deterred the 21 year old from aiming high. During a recent interview, the guard said that he wanted to become an
All-Star next season and he was willing to put in the work required to get there.
“Next year will be my third year and I need to establish myself as one of the best point guards and one of the best players in the game. It’s just trying to get better and better every day. Working with Scott Skiles (before the
lockout), getting in the weight room, dedicating the summer to strictly basketball. It’s going to be my third year, so it’s time to become an all-star.” He said.
The 6-foot-1 player has a peculiar story. As the NBA rules have changed over the last years meaning that players cannot come into the league straight out of high school, Jennings decided to go play abroad professionally rather
than attend college. Once in the NBA, the player exploded in what was seen as a very promising rookie season.
However, last season injuries kept him out for as many as 19 games. Even when he played, it was visible that Jennings was not at 100 percent and the player failed to make the step forward he would have been expected to after such
a promising start to his career.
Since the NBA regular season ended, Brandon has had time to rest his body and he is also using the opportunity to train himself for the challenges that lie ahead. He said that he was focused on his career and was putting in the
hours he thought he needed in order to take his game to the next level,
“I’m just getting back to the basics of basketball,” said Jennings, “Just working on my fundamentals. Getting setback last year with the injury made me have a different approach to the game. It’s not (taken for) granted.”
It is a refreshing attitude in a young player and just what the Milwaukee Bucks would have hoped for, when they signed the talented young point guard. Jennings certainly has the potential to become a top NBA player and if he keeps
working hard and believes in himself then the Bucks would have a real star in their hand.
Brandon averaged 16.2 points per game as well as 4.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds last season despite his health concerns and the player is confident he can improve on those numbers, especially the assists which actually went down
from his rookie year.
