Milwaukee Bucks second-round pick Jon Leuer inks a pact with Skyliners Frankfurt: NBA Update
Milwaukee Bucks second-round pick Jon Leuer has inked a pact with a top German team Skyliners Frankfurt. Leuer, who was selected as 40th overall second round pick in this year’s draft will play for the German side during
the lockout and will return as soon as the NBA owners and the National Basketball Players association or NBPA reach an agreement over the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Marks Bartelstein, Leuer’s agent thanked the German side for allowing Jon an out clause in his contract,
"We are tremendously appreciative of the Frankfurt management giving Jon the opportunity to be able to play for a top team and still pursue his dream of playing in the NBA if and when the lockout ends."
The 6 ft10 in power represented Wisconsin Badgers for four seasons before declaring for the 2011 draft. In his last season with the Badgers, Leuer scored with an average of 18.3 points per game on 0.843 percent shooting from the
free throw line and clutched 7.2 rebounds in each game.
Prior to Leuer, Boston Celtics second round selection E’Twaun Moore was the first client of Bartelstein, who had signed a contract with an Italian professional team, His contract also includes an opt out clause.
At 230 pound, Leuer is pretty effective from the charity stripe, but he needs to work on his shooting both from the field and three-point range. In addition to that, Leuer needs to improve his rebounding to become a good role player
that can provide support to the key players of the team.
Due to the lockout and the uncertainty over the period for which it will remain , many NBA star players have been searching different avenues, where they would not only just get a taste of professional basketball, but can also
get some good cash.
Earlier the NBA players were aiming the Chinese Basketball League, as they were seeing more potential there as compared to Europe. However, a few days back a Chinese league official told that they are also considering constricting
the contracts offered to the foreign players to avoid an outflow of such players in the middle of the season. According to reports, the Chinese league is considering to limit its franchises to a maximum of one NBA player and that also with a condition of no
escape clause.
With so much players vying for the limited spots on the European circuit, the German job will definitely give Jon a lift and will add to his experience, before he makes his impact in NBA.
