Milwaukee Bucks thump Washington Wizards 112-98; Close in on the playoff sopt - NBA Recap
On Monday night at the Verizon Center, the Milwaukee Bucks routed the Washington Wizards 112-98, inching closer to the New York Knicks for the last play-off berth in the Eastern Conference. This probably sets up a good end of the
season for both the respective organizations.
With six of their players scoring in double figures, Milwaukee shot more than 50% on the night. In what was an all around splendid performance the away side also outrebounded the home team 48-35, with 15 of those coming on the
offensive glass. Milwaukee made sure to capitalize on those second chance opportunities for most part of the game.
In the early stages both sides seemed to be competing very well but that did not last long as the Bucks, who have a playoff spot just in their reach, took control of the game. Milwaukee finished the quarter with on a 15-2 run as
they stomped their authority in this one, early.
The Bucks were helped out in their cause by the Wizards who were responsible for their down fall and were bamboozled by a series of mistakes in the closing stages of the first period.
If the Wizards were making mistakes, Milwaukee were not far behind as they had a total of 19 turnovers to end the game. The most turnovers came in the third quarter when both sides were responsible for committing 5 give-aways within
a span of just 30 seconds.
Wizards tried very hard to get back into the game and reeled off a 9-0 run in the early stages of the second half.
But then Brandon Jennings erupted.
The Bucks point guard, who was having a rather mediocre game with 2 points till the break, came up big with 17 points in the third quarter to help the Bucks rip off a run of 10-0. He alone scored only five points less than the
whole Wizards roster.
The fourth quarter had a similar script in accordance with the third quarter. If the home side had any hopes of a comeback they were quickly laid to rest as the Bucks went on 21-7 run to close out the game.
Brandon Jennings had 19 points with 17 of them coming in the third quarter to go along with seven assists and six rebounds. Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy managed to score 17 each while Ersan Ilyasova scored 16 points.
Jordan Crawford led the Wizards with 23 points; Jan Vesely managed to get a career-high 14 points. Kevin Seraphin added 15 points; John Wall had 14 points on a poor shooting performance, going 4-13 from the field.
