Mimi Schneider wins Girls 100 yard butterfly gold – High School State Championships, Illinois
Schneider of Oak Park won the title of Girls 100 yard butterfly at the 2011 Girls High School State Championships in Illinois on Saturday, November 19 in Winnetka.
Schneider outperformed her competitor in the 100 yard playoff by clinching gold medal of the event in a superb time of 53.57 seconds. She was followed by Connie Hsu of Glen Ellyn, who remained 1.09 seconds behind and grabbed silver medal of the event in a time of 54.66 seconds.
Hsu remained 1.05 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Gia Dalesandro of Naperville, who appeared on the finishing wall for third fastest spot with the timing of 55.71 seconds.
In the meantime, Sarah Sykstus of Aurora settled on the finishing wall for fourth position. Sykstus remained 0.02 seconds behind her former finisher and completed her swim in a time of 55.73 seconds.
She was trailed by Genna Heidkamp of Hinsdale, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from her former finisher and reached the finishing end with a timing of 55.93 seconds for fifth positions.
Heidkamp devastated hopes of her following swimmer, Jen Law of Naperville, with a difference of 0.05 seconds. Law completed her swim in a time of 55.98 seconds for sixth position.
Meanwhile, Molly Coonce of Aurora emerged on the concluding wall for the seventh best spot. Coonce remained 0.53 seconds away from sixth position holder and ended her race in a time of 55.51 seconds.
The eight fastest spot was claimed by Gabby Sims of Downers Grove, who remained 0.19 seconds slower than her former finisher and reported an effort of 55.70 seconds. Sims was chased by Veronica Gibson of Oak Park, who was 1.11 seconds away from Sims and submitted a time of 56.81 seconds for ninth position.
Gibson was followed by Lori Lynn of Belleville, who was 0.06 seconds behind and occupied tenth finishing spot with a timing of 56.87 seconds.
The crowd acknowledged commendable efforts of all the participants, who struggled hard to escape each other on the finishing wall. In addition, the podium finishers received awards and accolades for their wonderful efforts after the completion of session.
