Min Hao, Chia Wen tread into semi-final of 2012 Singapore International Series
Mixed Doubles event of Li-Ning Singapore International Series got another semi-finalist when Min Hao Tseng-Chia Wen Lai outshined Wee Gleen Tan-Mei Kuan Chow on August 16, 2012.
This quarter-final tussle lasted for three sets and both teams consumed their energies for 45 minutes to pile up a final result of 21-17, 17-21 and 21-14.
The Taipei campaigners prevailed in opening and closing segments of this showdown and setup a semi-final clash with another Malaysian duo Jian Guo Ong-Shevon Jemie Lai.
Meanwhile, the opposing team could not forge a fruitful chemistry and faced a 1-2 defeat in round of eight of this International Series.
In opening game of the match, Min Hao-Chia Wen took off in perfect manner and established a comfortable lead. They transformed this initial advantage into an authoritative position by dominating in a couple of consecutive rallies.
At half time, they were leading their challengers with a decent total of 11 but few fatal mistakes brought them down.
The twosome of Wee Gleen and Mei Kuan did not squander this opportunity and narrowed the gap with a giant leap of four uninterrupted points.
However, they could not go with the same flow in final stage of the game and let first match point slip from their hands with 17-21 margin on the board.
There was lot of action in the second set as the Taipei team was in a strong position at one stage but then a power packed campaign of their rivals changed the whole scenario.
The Malaysian couple looked a bit confused in the beginning as they trailed behind their competitors in most part of first half but few productive rallies boosted their confidence.
Wee Gleen and Mei Kuan showed elevated craft in later part of the game and levelled the match score by registering a decisive figure of 21-17.
After such an emphatic effort from both teams, third set was expected to be a competitive tussle but it proved a dead contest in the third quarter of the set.
Initially, both contenders remained locked in a tense situation as neither of them could make the difference but after mid-game break Min Hao-Chia Wen struck hard and secured the honour with a striking knock of 21-14.
