Min Zhou dominates Women’s 200m IM heats – FINA Swimming World Cup, Beijing
Min Zhou dominated the qualification of Women’s 200m Individual Medley on first day of the sixth stop of FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2, 2012.
Zhou showered her expertise in the eight-lap IM discipline as she sprinted her way towards the finishing end as top qualifying swimmer.
Zhou faced tough competition from Katinka Hosszu of Hungary in the first half but with her unrelenting efforts in the concluding laps, she managed to secure first position.
She enjoyed a slight lead over Hosszu and qualified into the playoff as top fastest swimmer with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.11 seconds.
Zhou remained only 0.04 seconds slower from Hosszu, who followed her into the final round as second best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 10.15 seconds.
Hosszu was followed by Ye Shiwen of China, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as third fastest finisher by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 10.38 seconds.
Similarly, fourth best qualification spot of the event was obtained by Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who was 2.10 seconds slower and proved her eligibility for fourth position by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 12.48 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was nearly 0.80 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.23 seconds.
Jakabos was traced by Xinyi Chen, who was 0.31 seconds apart and completed her race in sixth place by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 13.54 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Wenrui Zhu, who remained 0.04 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.58 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Qing Li, who was 1.06 seconds apart and ended her race in eighth place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 14.64 seconds.
Furthermore, Zhou received massive admiration from the audience for her top finish and articulated that she would try to achieve the same in playoff.
