Minatsu Mitani becomes first Japanese player with a Super Series Title in Women’s Singles category
Japan’s Minatsu Mitani becomes the first ever Japanese player who earned a Super Series title in Women’s Singles category when she proved her mettle at the Yonex French Open 2012 on Sunday, October 28, at Paris France.
In the title match, the un-seeded Mitani thrashed none other than the Denmark Open Champion Saina Nehwal of India who was the top seeded player in the tournament.
The spirited Mitani, who is currently placed at number 26 in Women’s Singles world rankings, played with impressive speed and precision and easily toppled the World Number Three Saina in just 40 minutes.
On the contrary, the higher ranked Saina was shocked with the incredible performance of her un-seeded Japanese opponent and she went down in an unexpected fashion without taking even a single game.
It was a crunchy fight in the opening rallies when Mitani showed a wonderful display of her impressive skills and remained confident against the top seeded Indian shuttler.
Mitani showed that she has obtained top class skills by playing attacking and positive badminton and remained successful in getting a strong position on score board.
Japanese shuttler did not show any mercy to her aggressive Indian opponent in the starting half and established a tremendous lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, the aggressive Mitani was focused in her play and remained successful in maintaining a reasonable difference on score board.
Mitani was very calm and composed on court as she did not take pressure and finished up the first game with a close margin of 21-19.
In the second set of this final battle, Mitani did not lose her focus at any stage in the first part as she played with confidence and aggression and easily took an early lead.
Until the one-minute break, Mitani was in commanding position as she set up a huge difference on score board by maintaining pressure on Saina who played quivering badminton.
After the break, the impressive Japanese player continued her comfortable run and easily grabbed the second set with a huge 21-11 margin on score board.
The in-form Mitani emerged as the title winner by beating Saina in straight sets with a dominating margin of 21-19 and 21-11.
