Minatsu Mitani ousts So Young Park in Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final at Thailand Open 2012
Japan’s Minatsu Mitani put up a phenomenal show of her elite skills and toppled So Young Park of Korea in thrilling contest at the pre-quarter-final stage in SCG Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold at Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, June 7.
Minatsu, who is the seventh seeded shuttler in Women’s Singles main draw of the championship, had to dig into her arsenal to overpower her aggressive Korean opponent in a straight-set match that entertained the local fans.
The higher ranked Japanese took the first game after a tough fight. However, she did not face any considerable resistance in the following set and easily bagged it to stamp her mark over her Korean rival by taking 32 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Korean played to her maximum potential in the opening set but remained unlucky in the ending points and lost it. However, she failed to remain focused in the court in second game and eventually lost contest with a reasonable margin.
Minatsu started her campaign in a dominating manner as she played to her maximum speed. However, her Korean opponent also played at the same speed and progressed closely until the one-minute interval.
After the break, both ladies continued putting up superb show of aggressive and flawless badminton and reached at the thrilling stage of 22-22.
At this crucial stage in the opening set, it was the Japanese shuttler who controlled her nerves and remained successful in scoring two consecutive points to clinch the game with a tight 24-22 score on the board.
In the second game, Minatsu was everywhere in the court controlling the pace of rallies and dictating her rival in all areas of the court.
She used all corners of the court to remain in impressive control and took a remarkable lead over her rival until the end of opening half.
After the break, the Japanese continued her elevated performance in the game and remained successful in grabbing the second game in a completely dominating manner with a 21-14 score on the board.
Minatsu won this straight-set entertaining clash in just 32 minutes with an interesting margin of 24-22 and 21-14.
