Minatsu Mitani stuns Wang Shixian in Women’s Singles second round at Li Ning China Masters
Japan’s talented female player Minatsu Mitani showed her remarkable craft on court and remained successful in securing her place in Women’s Singles quarter-final after creating the biggest upset of the tournament as she outplayed her higher ranked local
rival Wang Shixian in second round at Li Ning China Masters 2012 on Thursday, September 13, in China.
The un-seeded Minatsu, who is currently World Number 28 in Women’s Singles category, showed her tremendous craft on court and destroyed local hopes by thrashing the World Number Five Shixian who was third seeded player in the tournament.
It was one of the best matches of the day as the lower ranked Japanese shuttler put up spectacular show of top class badminton and showed exit to Shixian in a phenomenal fashion by finishing up the battle in straight games with a wonderful margin in 50 minutes.
On the other hand, the third seeded Chinese shuttler could not make her home fans happy as she received a shocking treatment from her un-seeded opponent and crashed out without proving her worth at any stage in the whole battle.
The opening game was absolutely wonderful when the Japanese shuttler played at her best and took an early lead without facing any considerable resistance.
Minatsu played with confidence and pushed her Chinese rival in all areas of the court. She remained in commanding position and took a huge lead against Shixian until the end of starting half.
After the mid-game interval, the incredible Minatsu continued her amazing run on court without sparing any chance for her Chinese opponent to fight back into the game and eventually finished off the set with a punishing margin of 21-13.
The following set was somewhat close as Shixian showed her brilliance in remained close to her in-form Japanese rival until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the Japanese shuttler started to play attacking badminton by taking the bird timely and managed to bag the second game with a reasonable 21-18 score on the board.
Minatsu stood victorious against Shixian in a commanding fashion with an overall margin of 21-13 and 21-18.
