Mind Games have no influence over Tommys Choice’s win at Henlow
Henlow Racing Stadium in Bedfordshire was the place to be for some thrilling 460m greyhound racing action last night. Racing fans enjoyed an 11-race card.
The excitement got off to a great start at 19:45 with an A10 race. Before the race, the odds makers called Deputy Dicky the favourite to win with odds of 5-4. However, Deputy Dicky failed to deliver the predicted results, as Tommys Choice overcame him to finish strong and win the race in 28.74 seconds. Tommys Choice’s odds of 7-4 were slightly better than those of Deputy Dicky, who came in second place 2½ lengths behind with a 28.94 finish.
The number three spot went to Trotters Caitlin (6-1), who trotted to a 29.10 finish, putting her two lengths behind the Deputy. Mind Games was the long shot of the race with 8-1 odds. However, his mind games proved ineffective, as he placed fourth in 29.14, a ½ length behind third place.
Bringing up the rear was Malbay Ronny (6-1), who finished 1½ lengths behind Mind Games in 29.26 to take fifth place. In the final spot was Rhesus (4-1), who finished the race with a time of 29.30, which was a ½ length behind Malbay Ronny.
Westmead Story was the story of the A9 race at 20:00. He was billed as the favourite pre-race with 4-6 odds, and held an early pace coming out of trap two. He continued his torrid pace by leading first and winning well, ending up with a great finishing time of 28.54. Loughbeag Miley (4-1) managed a second-place finish in 28.88. She was 4¼ lengths behind the leader.
The third-place finisher was Mattina Bella (4-1), who was a ½ length behind Loughbeag Miley with a time of 28.92. Safepac Comet (5-1) placed fourth with a 29.08 finish that put him 2 lengths behind third place. Jump Up Joe (5-1) failed to jump into first place, as he finished fifth in 29.14. A distance of only ¾ lengths separated him from fourth place. Westmead Badger finished the race in 29.52 to lay claim on sixth place. He was 4¾ lengths behind Jump Up Joe.
The 20:15 A8 race saw Dungarvan Crash cruise to a win with a superb finishing time of 28.31. Carrying 7-4 favourite status into this race, Dungarvan Crash moved away from the pack very quickly coming out trap three. He always led, and managed to finish 4¾ lengths ahead of the runner-up. Second place belonged to Cabenco (2-1), who finished the race in 28.69.
Claiming the third position was Blondies Claim (5-1), who challenged second, and finished just a ½ length behind Cabenco in 28.73. A neck separated third place from fourth, with Hurry Home (5-1) rushing in to take fourth place in 28.75.
Aunt Sally (5-1) took fifth place in 28.89, placing her 1¾ lengths out of a fourth-place finish. The distance between fifth and sixth place was close as well, with Allglaze Alex placing last by a shoulder. He finished the race with a time of 28.90 after a bumped start.
