Is the "Mind the Gap" announcement on rail and tube lines useless? Does anyone know statistics of people who do fall? Have there been fatalities because of the gap?

  1. The gap isn't wide enough that a person would completely fall under the train, but it is wide enough to catch your foot. The most common injury would most likely be a sprained or broken ankle, or a twisted knee. Fatalities would be quite rare.

Someone rushing to board the train might not notice the gap, so I would say they are very useful for avoiding injury.

  2. proberly it is just a case of people not watching where they are going.

  3. Yes but if train companies don't announce it then ambulance chasing lawyers will start suing them for any little accidents that happen.

Better to be safe than sued.

  4. There probably aren't any statistics on this, but I bet people trip a couple of times. They are just obliged to notify everyone so if it DOES happen, they can't be sued for not telling people.

  5. i think  few people trip but dont actually fall down the gap

  6. Don't know.

They can't say that they weren't told!
