Minding my brother's goldfish....?

My brother went on holiday a few days ago and I've been keeping his family goldfish in my house while he's away. (I dunno what type of goldfish it is). It's 8 years old and has lived in the same tank/bowl for that same time.. This may be a stupid question. But do fish not get insanely bored?!

Also we're going away for the weekend and my husband bought a feeding block for the fish but I'm not too keen on it.. What should I do about it?

  1. I don't think a feeding block is wise, the goldfish can survive the weekend without eating.

I went on vacation for 2.5 weeks and I had my sister come over and feed my goldfish twice while I was gone.

Also on a side note goldfish require a large amount of swimming room. The rule is 1 fancy needs 20g plus an additional 10g per goldfish. Common or comet goldfish sold as feeders need 55g +

If your brothers goldfish has been in a bowl for 8 years it is severly stunted and will not live to its fullest life expectancy of 20+ years.

  2. Call your brother and ask about the feeding block.  He's had this fish a long time and I wouldn't want to kill it.  He can advise you what to do.  I wouldn't try anything without his permission.
