Mindy Kim misses the cut at Vancouver
South Korean Mindy Kim got off to a solid start at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, but could not stand her ground in the second round and ended up missing the cut.
Kim started the first round of CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, at the Vancouver Golf Club, in impressive style, as she looked determined to prove her mettle.
Despite a strong roster that featured stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Paul Cremer and world number two Stacy Lewis, the South Korean star fought a tough battle throughout the opening day and
troubled most of her nearest rivals.
She posted a 69 in the first round, but lost momentum on Friday and ended up carding an unimpressive 79, which made a severe dent in her overall position on the leaderboard.
Although the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) star walked off the course lowering her head, she did not appear to lose hope at all.
The first round went without any bogey, which helped Kim gain plenty of confidence. She parred the first three holes and drained a birdie on the fourth.
With three birdies in the first round, Kim managed to find a good position on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about her performance in the opening round, Kim said that she is more than happy to make a solid start at Vancouver, as she has been seeking to perform well on the LPGA Tour since the
start of the current season.
She said that despite the fact that the rain swept through the course on Thursday, she remained strong on the course, capitalising on chances she got.
“It feels great. I haven't been in this position for a while now. I've been struggling all year. It's a good start. There is nothing really much I can ask. Yeah, I guess that's it,” the LPGA titan said.
She went on to say that the putting green was better as it helped players make balanced putts. “Especially on the greens. It was really firm today, even with the rain. It's definitely faster if you're above
the pins. You don't want to be long from any pin. It was just being short of the pin, I think, is key here”.
However, she played worse than average in the second round, missing an opportunity to prove her worth this time.
